Shabby to Chic DIY: Thrift Store Find

I hope you all had a wonderful Labor Day Weekend! We decided to stay in this weekend as we had piles of boxes that we had to empty out. In case you didn't catch my last blog, I mentioned that we have recently moved into an apartment that we are very excited about! I seriously cannot wait to start decorating! I will probably share some photos on my Instagram once that's all done :)

Anyway, the purpose of today's blog is to talk about this gem at Urban Thrift! I occasionally go to thrift stores primarily to find pieces that I can have around our place. I am more into the furniture and decorative pieces than actual clothes. Don't get me wrong, I have bought some clothes here and there, but I am more drawn to household items. I have yet to venture to the most popular thrift stores in the Dallas area. I heard they offer special tour buses to show you the top notch ones! Not sure how true that is so we'll see. However, this Urban Thrift Store is pretty cool and lives up to its name. Its located at 9850 Walnut Hill Lane, Dallas, TX 75238. The best place to see what up-to-date items they have is to follow them on their Facebook. They have an album dedicated to the "new" stuff. I saw this bench on their album (a year ago) and I had to have it! I called them at (214) 341-1151 to purchase it over the phone so I can ensure It was MINE! Muahahahhah!!!

(I promise I will come back and update this post once I find the full before pic!)

I have been wanting to decorate our patio for FOREVER! Even when we were at the previous apartment, but never got around to it. Since then, I have several pins on Pintrest showing me how to decorate a small patio like mine. I bought this bench for $20 and its a GOOD sturdy bench with a beautiful shape. My mind went wild thinking how I can turn it into something beautiful. Sooo here's what we did on that Monday for Labor Day.

First, we cleaned the bench as it was a little dusty. Then, we sanded it down to make sure the wood stain didn't interfere with the white paint we were going to put over.

Next, we painted the bench white. We used Valspar paint which we bought at Home Depot and is perfect for an outdoor setting. Cost of this was about $22.

First coat of paint.

We let it dry for 2.5 hours before we add the second coat.

We let the 2nd coat dry over night... then...::Drum Roll Please::...........

Here is the Final Product!

After

Red is my favorite color so without a doubt I wanted a white/red duo with mixed prints. I bought the seated cushion, black and white paisley print pillow, solid red pillow, and "home" pillow at At Home over the weekend. They had a buy 1 get the other half off plus any patio pillow you bought automatically had a 25% discount! The butterfly and striped pillows I bought from Home Depot about a year ago when we initially wanted to get this project up and going!

Isn't she beautiful!!!!! <3

This red pillow that reads "Home" is exactly how I felt as we unpacked our apartment and worked on this project together....hence making this our new home <3

This is definitely part uno of transforming our patio. Obviously we still have a long way to go!

So, what do you think!? Like it? Pin It!

I would love to hear what you did over the Labor Day weekend and maybe some other easy peasy DIY projects that made your home feel well.... like HOME :-D

Until the next time & thanks for reading!
